As part of the recently approved SIU Carbondale Financial Stability Plan, the University’s Transit Service parcel and shuttle operation will be discontinued as of the close of business on Friday, August 4th, 2017.  Departments that have unused tickets can apply for a refund until September 30, 2017.  The form used to receive credit for unused tickets is listed as "Transit Ticket Credit Form" in the right sidebar as well as on our Forms page.  Please send completed forms, along with unused tickets, to the Travel Service office at 225 Travel Service Drive.

Please note that the closure only affects the car shuttle service used to transport staff and parcels.  The Saluki Express mass transit system (bus service) is not impacted.

Travel Service provides a daily rental fleet of up to 92 economical and energy saving vehicles including sedans, vans and trucks.  Our sedan models are Ford Focuses, Fusions and Ethanol Tauruses as well as Toyota Hybrid Priuses.  We offer the all-wheel drive Ford Escape Hybrid SUV and the Dodge Caravan Stow 'N Go, which carries up to 7 passengers with additional cargo space.  We also have GMC and Ford 8-Passenger Extended Vans which have a 4' x 5' cargo space.  Please check our FleetCommander site for availability and rental charges.

Travel Service's maintenance facility can service everything from wiper blades and oil changes to transmission and engine overhauls.  We have 6 service bays, with 6 ASE Certified Techicians and 2 ASE Master Certified Technicians.

The Transportation Area is responsible for the University Transit Service, Bus Operations and Car Wash/Detailing Service. There is a continuing emphasis on cost savings and customer service through proper training and quality inspection. The Transportation Area is supported by approximately 50 student employees who are trained, certified and qualified to perform all daily operational tasks.

A new 30 passenger bus with DVD player now allows departments to arrange day or overnight trips to virtually anywhere. It costs less than a full-size motor coach, is handicap accessible, and has two wheelchair seating positions.  21-passenger and 23-passenger buses are also available for smaller groups. By adding one of our professionally trained drivers these buses become an excellent safety replacement for the 15 passenger vans of the past. If a department wishes to save money, they can provide their own driver for one of our (3) 14-passenger buses. The driver must be certified and Travel Service will provide the required training for a fee.
