Mission Statement:
The overall philosophies and goals of Computer Operations are:
- To assist the service units in developing beneficial applications for microcomputers and microcomputer networks to aid in the overall management of their operations.
- To research each application request thoroughly to determine how it best fits into the scope of Plant and Service Operations' computerization goals and objectives.
- To develop flexible applications that will incorporate the needs of the service area to the best that the resources can be used.
- To provide timely service to computer users such that normal or required workflow is minimally disturbed and is effectively maximized.
- To continually monitor the current state-of-the-art in computer and network technologies so that they can be applied where appropriate.

- Duplicating Mailing server: AMD 900 PC running Red Hat Linux (Samba), 128 Mb RAM, 60 Gb of disk space
- Backup Server: Premio PII450 running Red Hat Linux (Arkeia), 128 Mb RAM, 480 Gb of disk space, DAT autochanger Imaging Server: Dell 1300 running NetWare5, 512 Mb RAM, 80 Gb of disk space
- Oracle DB server: Dell 2450 running Red Hat Linux (Oracle 8.0.5), 1.5 Gb RAM, 18 Gb of disk storage

- PC Workstations
- Mixture of approximately 150 PCs from various vendors and configurations
- Network
- Combination of Fast Ethernet switches and hubs as well as 10Base T hubs connect the PCs to the servers and printers
- Utilize dedicated ADSL circuits to extend reach of Ethernet to remote locations at T.O.N.
- Utilize a dedicated fiber optic connection between the Power Plant and the servers
- Utilize a T1 and ADSL circuits to connect to the SIUC campus area network (CAN)
- Utilize a T1 to connect T.O.N. to the SIUC campus area network

- Developed in Visual Foxpro using the Codemine or Visual Promatrix frameworks
